What is Natural Skincare?

A Natural Skincare product is one where the ingredients come from natural sources such as carrier oils and butters combined with essential oils, herbal infusions along with emulsifiers, preservatives, surfactants and humectants.   Most importantly a Natural Skincare product is made without the use of synthetic chemicals, petrochemicals or other suspect ingredients and manufactured in such a way to preserve the integrity of the natural ingredients.

Why is Natural Skincare important?

Natural Skincare is all about caring for your skin. The problem is that our skin, the largest organ in our body, absorbs chemicals. This means we are absorbing and ingesting a large amount of chemicals found in skincare products each day. Scientific research may vary on the severity of damage that these chemicals cause, but one thing is for sure ~ it’s not natural.

Our natural skincare products provide a solution to people who are seeking a gentler, healthier alternative for their skin care needs. Most lotions contain chemicals that are harmful to your skin and the environment Our natural skincare products can provide smoother, softer, firmer skin, and can actually help make the skin healthier with the vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and antioxidants your skin receives from the variety of oils and butters we use in our formulations. Our natural skincare products are made from all natural ingredients that can improve the appearance of your skin and heal damage caused by sun, smoke, extreme hot or cold temperatures and the process of aging. The effects on the skin can be long lasting and very effective providing healthy, vibrant and radiant skin.

Learn to Understand and Read the Labels

The more you know about the natural choices available, the better. When choosing a natural skincare product, always read the information carefully so you know what ingredients are used in the product. Give some LOVE to the skin you’re born with by using natural skincare products. Using natural skincare products is a great first step toward a natural healthy glow. Generic skincare products cannot give your skin the care it needs. Only the best natural skincare products can make your skin look and feel better. So don’t wait! Make sure to take the plunge with the natural choice for healthier, firmer more radiant skin.

When you choose a natural skincare do you look for the word "natural" on the label? Seems like a good thing to see if you are trying to buy something with pure, natural ingredients, ingredients that come from nature, from Mother Earth. It should be a good thing but frequently that word on a product can be misleading. At present, a company might put “natural” on their label even if only one ingredient is natural while the other ingredients are synthetic and even toxic chemicals.

Perhaps you've seen a product claim "made with Shea Butter" or some other natural ingredient printed on the front of the container. It gives the impression that this is a natural product which it could be but you won't know for sure unless you learn to read the label and know the ingredients.

At this time, there are no regulations guiding the use of chemicals in skincare products. And since your skin is capable of absorbing 60% or more of whatever you put on it, I know you want to be sure that what you are using is a safe and natural skincare product.

From an issue of Alternative Medicine Magazine:

  • 100,000 synthetic chemicals are currently registered for use.
  • Fewer than 10% have been tested for their effects on humans.
  • Increasingly these toxic chemicals are found in most skincare products.
How to Choose Truly Natural Products

Synthetic chemicals are a common ingredient in many of the products people use everyday. Chemical preservatives used to preserve a product and extend its shelf life is just one example. Some research has shown that the small amounts typically found in a product are not harmful. That may be true but what is of concern is the accumulative effect of the many different synthetic chemicals and their potential reaction to each other.  Since most of the synthetic chemicals have not been tested individually much less together the reaction is unknown.  Why take the risk when you can purchase our natural skincare products?
Natural skin care means more than natural ingredients. While natural ingredients should make up the bulk of the list there are other things to look for:

  • Learn what ingredients can be harmful. Click Ingredients button below for more information.
  • If possible choose organic.   When you truly analyze a product you will find you cannot truly purchase an ALL Organic skincare product.  There are just some ingredients you need, like an emulsifier, which you cannot get in organic form.
  • Great skin care does not need animal ingredients.
  • Always make sure the company you buy from does not do animal testing.
Far too many companies still use this type of testing for their products.
  • A good rule of thumb is ~ if you can’t pronounce the ingredient DON’T put it on your skin.

More on Organic

The same goes for choosing an Organic skincare product as with choosing a Natural one (just because the label say’s Organic doesn’t necessarily mean it is Natural).  When you choose an Organic skincare product do you look for the word Organic on the label?  Look at what the standards are for Organic below.  If you cannot pronounce a word it is not Natural much less Organic.100% Organic Products labeled as “100 percent organic” must contain (excluding water and salt) only organically produced ingredients and processing aids.

Organic Products labeled “organic” must consist of at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients (excluding water and salt). Any remaining product ingredients must consist of nonagricultural substances approved on the National List (NOP) including specific non-organically produced agricultural products that are not commercially available in organic form. Emulsifying Wax is one of those emulsifiers that the USDA does not recognize on their National List!Products Labeled "Made With Organic Ingredients" must  contain at least 70 percent organic ingredients and then can use the phrase “made with organic ingredients Products That Contain Less Than 70 Percent Organic Ingredients cannot use the term organic anywhere on the principal display label. However, they may identify the specific ingredients that are organically produced on the ingredient list.Emulsifying Wax Trumps Everything.

In order to have a lotion, an emulsion that does not separate, an emulsifier must be used. We use emulsifying wax NF (National Formulary), and guess what? It is not on the National List! What does this mean? You know now! The lotion cannot be labeled and sold as 100% Organic!

The emulsifying wax we use is naturally derived (vegetable based).

Pregnancy Skin Care

Your skin may have special needs when you are pregnant that may bring new challenges for healthy skin making this a particularly important time to pay attention to the products you use. Natural skincare products are a safe and effective way for a mom-to-be to take care of her skin while protecting your growing baby.
Baby Skin Care All Natural ingredients are wonderful to use on a baby. Doesn't it make sense to keep chemical exposure to a minimum. It's up to you to be informed so you can make the best and safest choices.

Natural Sunscreen

Even some products like sunscreen which typically use chemical ingredients to protect us from UV rays, plus all the other synthetic chemicals in the product, can be made more naturally. Titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, are two natural ingredients being used successfully in natural sunscreens.  We are in the process of developing a natural sunscreen to protect your skin.
